The man who books the Super Bowl halftime show may have booked himself. Jay-Z has reportedly selected himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, scheduled for February 2027 in Los Angeles, according to TMZ and Puck News reporting carried by The Source on Wednesday.

Through Roc Nation, Jay-Z has overseen the NFL's halftime show since 2019, making a performance of his own a long-anticipated possibility — and an obvious conflict-of-interest talking point, which is part of why the report is drawing such wide reaction. No official NFL confirmation has been issued, and self-selection reports should be treated as preliminary until the league and Roc Nation issue formal statements.

If it happens, the timing is tidy. The reported booking coincides with major milestones in his catalogue, including the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint — the anniversaries his current JAŸ-Z30 shows are built around.

His drawing power is not in question. Jay-Z generated more than $42.2 million from three Yankee Stadium concerts celebrating those anniversaries, according to Touring Data — $42,290,766 from 136,934 tickets, averaging roughly $14.1 million a night, the biggest box-office report by a rapper in history. A halftime headline slot would convert that stadium form into the single biggest television stage in American entertainment.
