VICTORIA, B.C. — Japanese retailer Muji is expanding its Canadian footprint with its first store on Vancouver Island, opening inside the Mayfair Shopping Centre in Victoria, British Columbia.
The 3,379-square-foot store carries Muji's full range of categories, from basic apparel and home and kitchen goods to stationery and travel accessories, in the brand's marketplace-style layout. It is the retailer's fifth location in British Columbia and its third Canadian store opening within the past year, with a grand opening weekend scheduled for October 24 and 25.
Alongside the opening, Muji is launching the Community Collective, a local engagement program that builds area businesses and organizations directly into launch campaigns and ongoing store operations. Ahead of the Victoria opening, residents were invited to nominate regional businesses to take part in launch activities and cross-promotions, a model the company says will serve as a template for future Canadian openings.
“Muji is rooted in our Japanese heritage of simplicity, quality, thoughtful design, and products that make everyday life better,” said Richard Rappaport, president of Muji North America, adding that Victoria is an important next step as the brand grows in Canada while tailoring its stores to the communities they serve.
