Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has pledged that she will not revisit the question of provincial separation for as long as she remains premier if Albertans vote to remain in Canada in the October 19 referendum. Smith made the commitment in an interview with CBC News chief correspondent Adrienne Arsenault, nine days before the vote.

The October 19 ballot asks Albertans whether the province should begin constitutional steps toward a future binding referendum on separation, alongside questions on immigration and equalization. Polls suggest roughly two-thirds of voters intend to vote to remain.

Smith also appeared Saturday morning at the True North Nation event in Calgary, where referendum politics dominated the conversation. The pledge is aimed at settling speculation that a close result could be followed by repeated votes.

The referendum has drawn national attention as a test of western alienation politics and federal-provincial relations, with advance voting already underway across the province.
