The 20th Asian Games came to a colourful close Sunday evening at Nagoya City's Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, where the Games flame was extinguished and the Olympic Council of Asia flag was formally handed over to Doha, Qatar — host of the 2030 edition.
The closing ceremony, staged under the theme 'HEART BEAT Aichi-Nagoya,' featured Japanese cultural performances including girl group MYERA, singer Masaya Kimura and the Tokugawa Ieyasu and Hattori Hanzo Ninja Corps, capping two weeks of competition across Aichi prefecture.
China dominated the final medal table with 341 medals, including 161 golds. Host Japan finished second with 269 medals and 83 golds, followed by South Korea with 150 medals. India placed fourth with 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze — led by its shooters, who collected 15 medals in total.
With the flame out, the Asian sporting spotlight now turns to Doha, which will host the 21st Asian Games in 2030.
